• Hey there,

  There comes a time in everyone’s life, and incidentally in every film project, where we have a “whiff of death”: somehow, some way, we recognize that our bodies are temporary…and it touches us, galvanizes us to action, whether it be contacting loved ones to make amends, simply getting healthier, or taking that trip to Europe we’ve always wanted to take.

  I want you to cultivate that sense of urgency when considering what to do with this request. We are making a film, a “delightful” comedy full of Christmas music, that delivers a powerful message of peace and love to the world, in the most digestible of forms: entertainment.

  Our budget is $7,500 and we have created an IndieGoGo fundraising page (click the link below) in order to raise the remainder of that budget. The page explains the project in depth, has a few fun videos, and you can even read the entire script in the “gallery” section of the page.

  Please be generous — you can’t take it with you — and you can’t really hold on to it here and be happy. Just drop a few bucks in the till and pass it on to as many friends as possible, and give them a long look until they drop in a few bucks too. It’s time we, as conscious citizens, support “conscious cinema”. How is that we have organic groceries everywhere, but when we turn on the TV, we gobble up polluted, backwards ideas about what life is about? Help us make a film that will instill a motivation for peace and joy in its audience — we know what it takes to have peace here, let’s not kid ourselves — it’s just a matter of being motivated individually and collectively to take action!

HOLLYWOOD, California (HHR) — There’s always room for one more innovative movie theatre in town, right?  Well, Hollywood Happiness, the production company that claims to “mash-up” enlightenment and entertainment, has created a living-room themed screening venue to satisfy your enlightened cinema viewing tastes. Did I say living-room themed?  Actually, the Hollywood Happiness Cinema is a 300 square-foot living room belonging to Hollywood Happiness Producer, Sean A. Mulvihill.  Needless to say, seating is limited.

The room boasts high definition DLP projection via the Optoma PK301 pico projector unit, and 1500W of total Audio Surround Sound, sure to rattle the neighbor’s windows.  The picture, projected on a white wall, is approximately 7.5 feet diagonal, reminiscent of the Weird Al song, “Frank’s 2000 Inch TV” in which the viewer is impressed with the size of Robert DeNiro’s mole.   This isn’t quite that big, but in such a small room, seven and a half feet is pretty awesome.

“I just want to get this film and others like it out into the world,” 30 year-old Mulvihill says of his Wanna Be Now, LLC documentary collaboration, Living Luminaries: On the Serious Business of Happiness, “and if I have to turn my apartment in a movieplex, so be it.  If you build it, they will come.”

And come they have to prior, sporadic screenings of the work.

Living Luminaries, a 90-minute doc about finding inner peace co-starring Eckhart Tolle (author of The Power of Now), Marianne Williamson, Gary Renard, and Don Miguel & Jose Ruiz (authors of The Fifth Agreement), is currently out for DVD release by Simon and Schuster’s Beyond Words division, was a one-time Spiritual Cinema Circle release, has been quite popular in several international markets, but still remains largely unknown in the States.   Which begs the question: how do shoestring-budget indie filmmakers get their works seen when distributors employ a “buy and hold” strategy, without guaranteeing any advertising.  ”Be creative,” Mulvihill says, and he is doing just that.

I got a chance to interview DAWN DEMONE, the charismatic lead singer / songwriter for VETTE, an L.A. Band with a huge sound and tons of energy.  Find them on Facebook.  Here is what she says:

Me:  Describe VETTE.

Dawn:  VETTE is high energy and poppy with in-your-face guitars, big background vocals, and slamming drums. Our live shows will kick your butt…and leave me really sweaty

Me: Who are your musical influences?

D:  Hm… my musical influences. Well, I grew up listening to a LOT of oldies. That definitely effected my own songwriting choices. Four Seasons, Beach Boys, Simon and Garfunkel, Ricky Nelson… I know every song that comes on the oldies station. I also grew up on a lot of Billy Joel. He always blows me away… his songwriting is so versatile. LOVE Billy Joel. As I got a little older I got into Metallica and then Green Day. I remember listening to Dookie CONSTANTLY. I went through a classic rock stage. I went through an Indigo Girls stage. I love a great folk recording. Then, I got into 80s hair metal. I wanted to BE Nikki Sixx! Which is hysterical if you know me… I don’t even drink. I just loved his attitude! I dyed my hair black and started making my clothes for shows. I think the 80s stuff really influenced my performance style. Now, I’m into more 70s stuff. 70s rock, country (love Dolly Parton), and I like the Bee Gees, too. So I just love music! All across the board… it all inspires me and I suppose influences me on some level.

Me:  When did you start playing / writing and why?

D:  I started playing piano when I was 5. I wanted to learn how to play the pipe-organ at our church and the organist told me he had to teach me piano first… so I begged my mom and started right away. I remember making up little piano songs right when I started playing. I’d say I started to deliberately write piano music when I was about 9 or 10. That’s when I started to actually score them out on paper. I used to make these commercials on home video where I’d be selling the sheet music to imaginary viewers… so I was always interested in making money at writing! I didn’t start writing words with my music until I was about 13 or 14. They weren’t very good! haha They were horrible but you gotta start somewhere I guess! When I was 16 I used my own money to pay for this little 3 song demo that I recorded in a local studio in my small hometown. That demo’s a personal treasure but it’s way too embarrassing to show anybody! I decided I wanted to write some punky poppy songs and it was so fun that I bought an electric guitar and started a band. And that’s that. I guess I’ve just kind of always written. I just love creating in general so when I started playing an instrument it was a natural thing for me to write with it. Oh, and I never ended up learning pipe organ!

Me:  What makes the haromonies in “Follow Me Home” sound so great? It sounds like something I’ve never heard before.

D:  Thanks, Sean! I’m glad you like the vocals! Well, our producer, Wade Ferro, is GREAT at arranging harmonies. I just love his taste! I love the big sound he gets. On Follow Me Home in particular he recorded a TON of tracks of vocals. Some of them are Wade, some are me, and some are our bass player. Wade’s the best and I’m so thankful for his talent.

Me:  Technically speaking, how do you get your shows so rhythmically tight? Does your drummer have a computerized metronome in his ear?

D:  Thanks again! Yes, the drummer plays to a metronome. Since we use extra tracks when we play (with synth parts, loops, etc), we have to use a metronome so nothing gets off.

Me:  Any future plans?

D:  Future plans! Well, right now the short-term plan is to finish a few new recordings for the band, get placements for our music in film/TV, and get representation from a good manager or attorney. Long-term=world tour ) We have finished drums tracks for three new songs and started the vocals for one. And this week we are recording guitars at my favorite guitarists studio! Phil X. He is AMAZING. Can’t wait!
