Frank Sinatra once sang, “Wishin’ on a star never got you far…”
My hunch is that we all have a dream. Something that we believe, on this Earth, is absolute happiness. For some it’s playing sports professionally, others it’s a million dollars in business, others its a dream vacation, or maybe someone else dreams of moving closer to home to never miss a holiday with family. We all believe that there is something worth striving for in life — even people who claim to have no goals entertain thoughts of “I wish…” or “wouldn’t it be nice if…”.
So for a lot of us, we believe the reason we are not “happy” is because we don’t have “x”. Yeah, if we had that million, then we could start being happy. So you see, we put a block up in front of our happiness, saying that we can’t possibly be happy unless something specific happens.
God / The Universe doesn’t deal in specifics. The Universe thinks in wholeness. Wholeness is the big picture, the one you can’t even fathom…and the wholeness itself is what leads to the specifics we see, the circumstances we experience — because wholeness can deliver whatever we dream up. But if it is physical thing we dream up, it doesn’t last, and eventually brings us pain. This is true.
Now, wholeness is all powerful, and wholeness created us, and therefore we have its power, however, we are small fragments of an inseparable whole, and therefore what we think we are — separate “human beings” — cannot exist.
What I mean to say is that you cannot exist in a true way, a lasting way, as a human being, and therefore great wisdom lies in knowing what IS true about who and what we are.
If we are not human beings, if we are just dreaming up this little temporary existence and we are actually some unimaginable eternal, constant, all-powerful entity, what does that do for us in this life, which we find to be extremely real and true while we are in it?
What it does for us, the knowing that behind us is an eternal quality, is that it frees us! It frees us from the bondage of striving and suffering in life. It frees us from the need to worry or to feel guilt about what we did here on this Earth because it looses us from the grips of the world.
Of course, your fragmented ego does not like what I just wrote. It cannnot, because it has been found out. You see, if you want to be happy, you must want to leave your human being-ness behind. If you still value this world and this life as something that can bring you happiness later on if you play your cards right, you will suffer. This is a fact. Why? This world is temporary; nothing lasts. Why? Because eternal everything is truth — we already are and have everything — we want for nothing in reality. Why? Listen, right now, wherever you are, to the sounds of the world, to your breath, feel the inside of your head with your senses. Be quiet. Listen to the Voice that calls you back home. The Voice says (with feeling), “You are beyond this world. You are safe and you are complete. Come home to your truth, come away from your silly dream of lack and striving.”
Once you’ve heard the call of the Voice, you have a feeling of peacefulness wash over your like none you’ve felt before. That is the “proof” of its existence, and if you are not open to that fact, it is at the very least the proof of the power of your mind. You mind has the ability to make you happy and at peace as much as any other feeling.
So the question is now: do you want the world, do you want your physical dreams and hopes, or do you want happiness? Because you can’t have both. I know this to be true. I have been given the world by God because I have released the world to His/Her care. I entreat you to do the same. Release the world, release your dreams and you will have peace and your dreams will be forever satisfied. You will give up nothing and gain everything, truly.
Your only teacher, your only Guide is inside you and you are inside It. Be still and know the truth and your real dreams will come true.
